More than sixty per cent of students have a smartphone available for the online class


The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), 2020 states that three-fourths of the children have been helped in some way by family members in online classes during school closure due to the Covid-19 epidemic. In this report released on Wednesday, it is said that more than 60 per cent of the registered students come from families who have at least one smartphone.

"In the last two years, this proportion among registered children has risen sharply from 36.5 per cent to 61.8 per cent," the report said. There has been a similar increase in the percentage of students of registered students in both government and private schools.

According to the report, "States where the proportion of children with smartphone-holding families has increased by more than 30 percent include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Tripura."

The study was carried out in 26 states and four union territories. During this period, 52,227 families and 59,251 children in the age group of five to 16 years and teachers and principals of 8,963 government schools providing primary level education were contacted.
